After studying under Haydn in Vienna, the young Beethoven announced himself with his First Symphony, a sunny composition full of youth and promise. While that first symphony shows Mozart and Haydn's influence, the work also hints at the trailblazing experimentation that would mark Beethoven's career. You can hear the composer's progression unfold when the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra follows up Symphony No. 1 with No. 4, a work that sweeps you from tense foreboding to sweet joy and all the way to rowdy humor by its climactic end. Keep an eye out at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center for charismatic percussionist Lisa Pegher in this program that also includes a new work by Danielpour.
